Okay, I’m going to bring up PETAmon one last time today, because this point has to be addressed now.

Apparently there are some people, despite all the arguments about loving and caring for Pokemon that is brought time after time in both the games and the anime, that think that ‘just because they love them doesn’t mean they know what’s best for them’.

Alright guys, listen and listen well.

Obviously they do know what’s best for them because in both the anime and the games, they make it extremely clear that the Pokemon love and enjoy being with the protagonist trainers. All that being forced to battle against their will is bullshit, because a ton of Pokemon are actually enthusiastic about battling, if you pay very close attention to their personalities. In fact, the only ones that would ever disobey their trainers are the Pokemon who think their trainers are not good enough!

And before you bring up the Stockholm Syndrome argument, need I remind you that a good majority of the wild Pokemon Ash ends up getting in his team voluntarily join him or allow themselves to be captured because they like him one reason or another.

So you can put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Hey, I’m gonna use this post as a springboard for my own two cents; hope everyone’s okay with that.

First off, don’t tarnish Ash’s name, because Ash loves every single Pokémon he captures. That’s probably why he never had as many as Gary did; because he dedicates himself to every single Pokémon he captures as best he can. Sure, he may not love the 30 Tauros that magically appeared out of nowhere as much as he loves Pikachu; but the only Pokémon he’s released from his “control” rather than leaving at Oak’s lab are either Pokémon he feels could be better trained by others (Primeape, Charizard, Beedrill) or Pokémon that needed to be with other Pokémon (Butterfree, Pidgeot, Lapras). He hasn’t once put Pikachu in his Poké Ball, not even when it’s unconscious. He runs onto the battlefield to pick up his Pikachu. He also respects each Pokémon’s right to leave the group and/or not evolve, as seen with both his Pikachu and his Bulbasaur.

It’s true that the animé is (in)famous for not working like the games, and the cookie-cutter trainer is far less direct in the befriending of his potential captures. But assuming you don’t use Master Balls, every single Pokémon has the potential to escape capture. Some trainers could tell “one that got away stories” just like old fishermen. In any case, the fact that a Pokémon usually has the potential to escape capture by wiggling out of every thrown Ball and knocking itself out implies those that don’t are inferior to those that do. And if that’s the case, the inferior Pokémon would have died anyway by the hand of a stronger Pokémon; after all, Pidgeots eat Magikarps and Taillows eat Wurmples. In this scenario, the trainer is giving the Pokémon a second chance.

Another fact: Pokémon love to compete by nature. For most Pokémon, battling is akin to a family’s pair of dogs play-fighting. There are rivalries that transcend this level of playful rivalry, but those are few and far between. And captured Pokémon usually respect other Pokémon enough to not continue attacking beyond the point of fainting.

Yet another point: battling isn’t the only way Pokémon compete. It’s only recently that Pokémon discovered their talent in putting on a show. Pokémon Contests, Pokémon Super Contests, the Pokéathlon, Pokémon Musicals, and Pokéstar Studios are all other ways Pokémon can satisfy their competitive spirit without hurting themselves or other Pokémon; they aren’t as popular as battling, but that’s only because battling has been around longer.

And PETA, your precious Team Plasma? It was a ruse. The leader of Plasma doesn’t believe in the ideals he’s spreading about a world of Pokémon free of trainer oppression; Ghetsis believes in the ideals of a world where only he (and possibly his disciples) can still have Pokémon to battle with, and take over the world as a result.
