I’m fine with your own opinion if it doesn’t directly contradict something that is canon for that character, but the more you distort a character, the less you really need that character as a base.

Because the fanbase has more female presence than it would like to admit. Why else would guy-on-guy ships be the most populated? Why else would the fanbase hate ships that interfered with said guy-on-guy ships? On the flip side of the coin, I’m not saying that all female Homestucks are yaoi-crazed, but there’s no denying that guy-on-guy ships (especially those not implied to be at least half-canon) are only popular in a fanbase with yaoi-crazed fangirls as a large part of it.
